Our December monthly meeting and Chrismas Party was very well attended with fun and banter and a buffet with Rum-punch. We appointed our co-opted committee members with Rona, Secretary, John Hasselgren, Bulletin Editor and Donald Neale i/c Talks and Speakers. The Photo competition was won by David Bonwick with a fine study of Blue Moon on passage down Channel (left), second was John Disney with a view of Club-members at leisure and third was Roger Whitney aboard Keyfim lll (right). A good time was had by all and our thanks to David for arranging the buffet
The Club’s Annual General Meeting took place on Saturday 9th November.
As customary, the agenda was followed strictly and after apologies and reading of the minutes of the last AGM, our out-going Skipper Les White reviewed the activities during the past year and thanked his committee for their stirling work. Our Purser Shirley Rose agreed to continue and was duly re-elected. At this point the Skipper and three mates resigned leaving our Purser, Shirley to handle the election of Skipper. After a brief discussion, Peter Burton (Dry Fly) was proposed and elected as the new Skipper for 2013/2014. He then conducted the election of the three Mates as follows. 1st Mate Peter Tyler (Storm), 2nd Mate John Disney (Pax) and 3rd Mate David Bonwick (Blue Moon). After a few announcements and discussions the meeting closed to enable Members to enjoy the buffet, chat and to mull over the photos from past rallies.
The funeral of RICHARD SHARP took place on Friday 1st November 2013 at 1:30pm at Chelmsford Crematorium and afterwards mourners attended the reception at the Pontlands Park Hotel in Great Baddow. The hymns brightened what was a solemn but memorable occasion; Greg spoke movingly of his close relatoionship with his father. Richard had been unwell for some time and passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 17th October 2013. Richard was a member of the Club for many years sailing Maji Mzuri. He spent his retirement years in Holland on his motor yacht Kubanga-Te before bringing her to the UK to a berth in London’s South Dock to be closer to his family and friends. Our condolences go to his son Greg and to his family.
